1) Protect
A lip balm provides protection against the elements via a moisture barrier, but a REALLY good lip balm provides that moisture barrier, SPF, and actual hydration to the lips. Meet the legendary Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25. This squeeze tube of goodness clocks in at $7.50, making it the most expensive item on the list, but also one of the most affordable items at Sephora. With 5 flavors to choose from (Black Tea & Blackberry, Lemon & Shea Butter, Shea Butter & Vitamin E, Grapefruit & Ginger, and Original), there's bound to be one that appeals to anyone's tastes (pun). This stuff has some serious chops when it comes to treating heat abused lips, plus that added SPF protection will help prevent the dreaded lip sunburn. Slap this sucker on before leaving the house, and don't forget to slip it in your pocket or purse for touch ups later on!
2) Pamper
Sometimes situations are dire - or you just feel like treating yourself - and a lip mask is in order! Sephora has two very economically priced bio-cellulose lip sheet masks for, brace yourself, $3 a pop. There's a moisturizing and softening rose option as well as a protecting and repairing shea. I find myself reaching for these after long days spent outside where just wearing a lip balm isn't cutting it. The essence these little dudes are seeped into the skin and add a jolt of hydration and much needed relief. Slap one of these on (oddly enough, I find applying them upside down is best) sit back for a good while, and then finish up with some more lip balm to lock everything in.
3) Perfect
I have a saying; When the going gets rough, it's time to exfoliate. Exfoliating your lips is an often overlooked step, but one I thoroughly enjoy! There's nothing like buffing away sad, sandpaper-esque layers of skin to reveal healthy, smooth, and rosy lips! e.l.f. makes a fantastic lip exfoliator for only $3. I really like this one because, unlike most others which come in pots, this one is a stick form making it much less messy and better for on the go. You can just buff your lips in small, circular motions with this and the granules suspended in the moisturizing base will just scrub away the sadness. There are a few varieties available - mint, cherry, and original - but I've only tried the O.G. Personally, the flavor is a bit strange, but it's not absolutely horrid. The convenient, no-muss, no-fuss packaging and the added benefit of the balm completely wins over any other lip exfoliator I've tried.
Stay hydrated and smooth, my friends!
