e.l.f HD Blush in Superstar Review + Swatch

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

I know, I know... I'm incredibly behind on the times when it comes to these absolute gems from e.l.f. In my defense, up until recently, my little valley town was devoid of most mass-retailers (because grumpy, middle aged white folk like to keep "trashy" places like malls and WalMart out of their little safehaven). I've gotta say that holding off on this $3 little ditty was worth the wait!

There are quite a few things that I like about this product, but I want to start with one of my favorite features:

I love me some cream blushes, but I really don't love the bacteria breeding-ground an open-air cream product can become after a few uses, so this product pump is a welcome innovation (and very rare to see in drugstore cream blush). My only gripe about the pump is that it squeezes out WAY TOO MUCH product if fully depressed, but more on that after the jump.

Another few fabulous things about this blush is that it is INSANELY pigmented, it is easy to work with, it blends like a dream, and you can either use your fingers or a brush to apply it... just be careful about how much you get on your skin because there is such thing as too much of a good thing...

The next image is shocking, but it had to be done in the name of science!

Speaking of a little goes a long way, this blush has 0.51 oz/15 mL of product in it, so unless you're doing the makeup of a small army every day for a month, you'll probably never run out.

Superstar is only one of six shades in the line, but is the only one with a really yellow base and coral color. The product looks like a cream finish in the tube and when freshly squeezed, but after blending and drying down there are some flecks of shimmer in it.

TL;DR Section:

Price: $3.00

Size: 0.51 fl oz, 15 mL

Availability: Walmart, Target, eyeslipsface.com, and other e.l.f retailers

Pros:
  • Super functional and sanitary packaging
  • Pigmentation for days
  • Long lasting
  • Blends easily
  • You get TONS of product for dirt cheap
Cons:
  • The pump doesn't know what portion control is... like, at all

Cruelty free: Yes

Overall rating: 10/10

  2. Nice, that's a great way to demonstrate the pigment in these things! I find it really hard to dispense only the small amount needed without wasting a bunch. But a trick to make it easier to apply is to mix it with a dab of primer.
