Prior to The Makeup Show LA I'd never had any Kat Von D items. I've heard good things about the line, especially the liquid lipsticks, but I just never really reached for anything in the line whilst at Sephora. La and behold, this product and a few others showed up in my press bag and now we're here. Luckily I took advantage of the 30% off pro discount while I was there and bought "Lolita" because that one is great and this one leaves a little something to be desired. I honestly probably would have written off the whole line based on my experience with "Armageddon", and I'm glad I didn't.

Kat Von D has super stylized packaging - it's very gothic meets tattoo culture meets pin-up, which is basically Kat herself described in three phrases. "Armageddon", a very bright, very cool (as in so blue toned that it almost pulls purple) carnation pink, is housed in a long, skinny, clear tube with black detailing and a black cap with silver roses.

While bright, cool toned pinks aren't my bag now because I'm a warm toned butch femme (even though my 2011 self would be delighted, the poor, delusional girl that didn't understand undertones or the fact that she was a big ol' dyke), that isn't what was upsets me about this product. What upsets me is that it's so streaky. Unlike most liquid lipsticks, this CAN be layered without becoming a gloppy mess, but it's still streak city. That aside, the formula on this is legit the BEST liquid lipstick I've ever tried. It dries so quickly, it feels super light on the lips, it's transfer resistant, it doesn't feel super drying, and it lasts quite a long time. As amazing as the formula is, streaks aside, it certainly isn't pizza proof and requires reapplication after eating.

TL;DR

Price: $20

Size: 6.6 mL/0.22 fl oz

Availability: Sephora

Pros:
  • Long wearing
  • Comfortable
  • Quick drying
  • Doesn't transfer
  • Isn't drying on the lips
Cons:
  • Super streaky
Cruelty free: Heck yeah!

Final thoughts: I'm super glad I picked up a shade that a) isn't streaky and b) I'll wear in addition to receiving this. I'd definitely recommend checking out this line because it's a pretty spectacular liquid lipstick, but maybe not this specific one because of the streaky application on the lips.

  1. For whatever reason, I haven't yet jumped on the KVD liquid lipstick bandwagon, but I'm sure I will soon. The colors are too pretty to resist!

    1. I'm really in love with Lolita! I'm actually queueing it up right now for next week, haha. It's gotta be my favorite liquid lipstick to date, which is saying something because I'm really not a liquid lipstick person.

  2. Ha I just swatched this on my lips and thought it was so streaky so I searched around for a review to see if anyone else had the same experience. Glad to read that it's not just me!
