Cleansing conditioners and me have never really gotten along. I mean, I really like the IDEA of them since they theoretically can cut down your hair care routine down from several products to only one, but I have het to find one that works. RenPure did nothing for me, the Herbal Essence Cleansing Conditioner was basically just plain conditioner in a bottle, Wen worked for me initially but also ended up in the bin... and now this, which didn't break the cycle. Initially I was pretty excited to try it out because of all the fancy claims. This 6-in-1 product is supposed to cleanse, treat, soften, condition, detangle, and shine up your dry and damaged hair while still being a low-lather, non-stripping, and no build up cleanser without silicone, sulfates, or dyes for your mop... or so it claims.
My first quarrel with this is that you're supposed to use only 6 to 8 pumps for your entire head. The pumps are tiny and I ended up having to use upwards of 20 just for my scalp and then another 10 for my ends. Oh, and I have collarbone length, fine textured, thick hair, so people with coarse hair or long hair will really need to load up on this goop. Since I had to use so much of this stuff, I've ended up going through nearly half the bottle with only 5 washes and that's just plain wasteful. This stuff was pretty hard to work through my hair and, like I said before, took a long time and a lot of pumps to fully saturate as per the instructions. The scent is, at least for me, stiflingly cheap. The camelina mint is trying really hard to smell high end, but it just comes off as very much drugstore - yeah, that totally makes me sound like an elitist scent jerk, but there's just something about the inexpensive components in most drugstore hair product perfume that makes me feel a bit sick to my stomach.
This does meet some of the claims, like how it is low-lather, but everything else for me was a bust. It's supposedly not going to leave any build up, but I noticed that I absolutely had to wash my hair the following day no matter how well I rinsed it because my hair had taken on the appearance and feel of day 3 or 4 hair. This did nothing to truly cleanse my hair or scalp, which is what I'm attributing my need to re-wash it so soon. As for detangling, softening, and shine... well, there's another dead end. My ends ended up feeling like a hairsprayed hair rat, I had one hell of a time trying to detangle post-shower without a leave-in conditioner, and while my hair looked marginally clean for the first few hours, it was still a far cry from shiny. I honestly have no idea how an item most similar to conditioner could simultaneously turn my scalp into an oily, itchy mess while also drying out my ends and not bring any shine or detangling to the table. Honestly, going back to my Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner between trials was like coming back home after a very long, itchy, and greasy day.
Not gonna lie to y'all, but I've been getting some pretty "blah" products from Influenster, which is the program which I received this product for review. Influenster, for those of you unaware, is kind of like a match making service for social influencers where brands will occasionally send you products for review. P.S. if you want to sign up for Influenster I still have a few spots open on my invite list - sign up HERE.
TL;DR
Price: $12
Size: 16.9 fl. oz/500 mL
Availability: Ulta, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Drugstore
Pros:
- Sulfate, dye, and silicone free
Cons:
- Drastically reduced time between required hair washing
- Requires much more than the recommended amount for proper use
- Caused build up on scalp
- Left hair dull, and somewhat greasy
Cruelty free: For once, yes. This is a vegan product that has not been tested on animals. Finally, L'Oreal!
Final thoughts: It's not worth the $12. You end up going through so much product that it's more economical to just buy separate shampoo and conditioner which will also clean and condition your hair much better. This really aggravated my scalp and caused a lot of build up on it, stimulate oil production, and also left my ends feeling trashed.
Dang this sounds like a hell. I was sent this too but I didn't bring it with me and never tried it - glad I didn't let it weigh down my bag or my hair.
ReplyDeleteYeah... it was NOT pleasant. At all.
