I am a total slut for lip balm. I don it as part of my morning and evening skincare routine, I slather it on before I start putting on my face, I always have a tube of it on my desk, in my purse, and on my bedside table. I. Love. It. I've tried so many formulation and tubes over the years, but there are definitely five that stand out to me. The list below is ranked "love" to "must have".
1. Benefit BeneBalm, $18
I love the formula of this one. It's a lovely slippery gel that leaves my lips feeling super supple after the balm-y feeling wears off. This is also one of those balms I love to throw on when I'm feeling super lazy, but also want to look a little put together because it has a red tint to it.
2. Glossier Generation G, $18
These über minimalist lip hybrids from Glossier are probably one of the most unique lip balms I own. Technically they're "lipsticks", but the hydrating factor and ease of use makes me classify them as a lip balm. The line has four shades, two super sheer, and two that are a bit more punchy. I have "Cake", a subtle peach nude shade that acts as a blur tool for my lips, and "Crush", which is a more vibrant, but still sheer, fuchsia. All of the shades are matte, which sounds a little counter intuitive when it comes to balms, but it works! I have reviews of both "Cake" and "Crush" if you'd like to check those out! Just click on the shade names in the previous sentence. You can also get 20% off your first order at Glossier here!
3. Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm, $7.50
On the more financially prudent scale, we have the super thick and super effective Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm. This balm comes in several flavors; Black Tea & Blackberry, Natural Mint & Shea Butter, Grapefruit & Ginger, Shea & Vitamin E, Lemon & Shea Butter, and Original. This formula reminds me a lot of the Benefit BeneBalm, but it's thicker and in tube form. I throw this on when I've been naughty and haven't had my required daily intake of water and it makes me feel less like a dehydrated mess. Plus, the SPF 25 is a huge bonus!
4. Chapstick Cake Batter, $1.49
Chapstick Cake Batter is the cheapest choice on my list, but this classic never fails to please. There's just something different about this formula that makes it super creamy and oh, so indulgent! This sucker is unfortunately not part of the permanent line, but it does pop up for a short amount of time every year in stores and is also buyable through the Chapstick website. Chapstick is definitely a staple brand when it comes to lip balms, but this one is just so much better than the rest. The delicious vanilla cake scent and flavor are a huge perk too!
5. Jouer Essential Lip Enhancer, $16
Seeing as how I was introduced to this product at the beginning of the year and yet it's at "must have" status is a testament to how much I love it. I have the original one, but it's also offered in a tinted version as well. There's just something magical about this and how well it works. It's instantly hydrating and somehow manages to make my lips look supernaturally smooth. I cannot gush about this enough, to be honest. I have a full review of this up if you want to learn more, but basically this is my holy grail lip balm and I'd freak if I lost it.
