Product Review: Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner

Monday, March 24, 2014
There are four basic types of makeup products in the world; ones that are flat out amazing, ones that seem horrible and then grow on you, ones that seem amazing and then end up disappointing you, and ones that just plain suck. Thankfully, this product isn't the last option, but unfortunately it isn't the first or even the second. Yes, mon petit pommes, I have experienced a sad, sad whirlwind romance where I was swept off my feet only to be dumped in the bin only a few hour later.

Meet the culprit of my latest failed romance, Milani Eye Tech Extreme:

I had been on the hunt for a nice (inexpensive) liquid eyeliner pen that would fulfill all my needs, but this suitor has left me feeling less than satisfied after a showy courtship. Queue the sad violin music.

Things didn't always seem so bad when it started out. There was rich pigmentation, easy application, and control in scribbling on my lids that just gets me going! But, alas, this latest fling couldn't stick around long enough for me to want to take it to the next level.

Forgive the dry skin and feathering because of. Man, I need to drink more water.

More woe after the jump.

Milani claims that this "extreme fine-tip point and easy grip handle" product is a non-feathering, waterproof, blackest black liner that can last all day without flaking or budging, but the TSOC lie detector test determined that it was NOT telling the truth. Sure, the non-feathering, waterproof, and non-flaking statements passed with flying colors, but it DID budge and it was NOT waterproof.

Applying this was a snap! It went on quite easily, didn't need a second pass to become the "blackest black" it could be, and didn't feather throughout the day. The nice, firm pointed tip was amazing because it had enough firmness so it didn't flick out whenever it felt like it, and making super thin lines was a complete breeze. Even on my hooded, oily lids with fine lines beyond my years, there wasn't any product running amok, nor was there any transfer (hallelujah!). I even liked the thin, long, pencil design, with a small, textured section for grip. Making a nice, thin wing that I didn't have to jump from lid to lid to even out was super easy...

... and then things went south (or more accurately; things went west and east). After a few hours of wear and my weepy little eyes - thanks, tiny tear ducts and hooded lids - my pretty pointed wings and sharp inner corners had completely disappeared leaving behind little dark blotches. Oh woe! Oh sadness!

This really bummed me out because this product showed such potential! After I had initially gotten it on my eyes, I thought to myself that this could really be it! I could settle down with an inexpensive liner to purchase over and over again, but first impressions can be deceiving.

This would be a great eyeliner for people with less watery eyes than myself, or for beefing up the lash line, but if you want a good liquid liner pen for a bangin' cat eye or winged liner, I suggest you look elsewhere.
