September Birchbox

I tried out Birchbox back in 2011 and after a while I became bored with it because my focus at the time was primarily makeup. As the years have gone by and my sights have shifted slightly, I felt like this service would better suit my current needs since I'm more interested in higher end brands and finding skin care and hair care that I actually like instead of just use out of convenience. This box marked the 6 year anniversary of Birchbox and they teamed up with the new and über trendy brand Milk Makeup. Apparently people that were previously subscribes were able to choose which of the Milk Makeup mini sizes they could receive, which to me is pretty rad! Being able to choose what comes in your box is a nice little perk so you know you'll get at least one thing your little heart desires.

OCC Lip Tar Collection

Monday, September 19, 2016

Me and OCC Lip Tars, the "original liquid lipstick", go WAY back. I purchased my first two, Grandma and Hush, back in 2011 when they were in a squeeze tube with a slanted tip. It's been a while since I've actually bought any, but they still had fond memories for me. When I was at TMSLA I did hit up their booth and got some killer deals since they were transitioning from their slightly older squeeze tube packaging into something more lipgloss-esque.

What's The Difference Between NYX Butter Gloss and NYX Intense Butter Gloss?

Sunday Mimosa, Sugar Plum, Cherry Custard, Summer Fruit

NYX is one of those companies that always has something new coming out. I swear to god every time I take my weekly trip to ULTA there's another damn lip product from them and I honestly can't keep track. Back in the day, when the Butter Glosses came out, they were revolutionary! A pigmented gloss that felt good on the lips at an accessible drugstore price? Sign me up! Somewhere along the way, NYX introduced the Intense Butter Glosses. Personally, I don't see the need to mess with a good thing, but in this day and age if you're not constantly updating than you're outdated. So... what's the difference between these two items? Why did NYX choose to keep the old formula even though there's a new and (possibly) improved one? And which of the two do I prefer?

OFRA Havana Nights Liquid Lipstick Review + Swatch

Time for another OFRA review. Let's get this over with. For those of you who that are new here; I've disliked 99% of the products I've tried from this company and I have tried a LOT. Pardon me if I'm not particularly enthusiastic.

Stilazzi Synthetic Brush S122 Review

Wednesday, August 31, 2016
Press Sample

Stilazzi is a brand that I'd never heard of prior to The Makeup Show LA. Stilazzi is a brand aimed at the professional makeup artist whose inventory widely covers pro MUA tools and supplies, like this S122 Synthetic Brush. I'm a lover of synthetic brushes, but I tend to be pretty picky about the quality of them. Does this simple eyeshadow brush hit the mark, or does it fall flat?

Crown Brush Ultra Skinny Eye Marker Review + Swatch

Tuesday, August 23, 2016
Press Sample

Fun fact about me: I NEVER use liquid liner. I have upturned eyes that happen to have a pretty severe downturned hood, so the idea of winged liner is quite a laughable notion. I received this Crown Brush Ultra Skinny Eye Marker as part of my Blogger bag for The Makeup Show LA, and I've been putting off reviewing it because it honestly does not fit into my makeup routine at all because of my aforementioned predicament. I was also pretty iffy because I know Crown Brush as a decent, but cheap brush company. I've tried another one of their makeup products, which I used in my Rainbow Concealer tutorial, and it was pretty "ok" and I didn't know what to expect with this $7 liquid liner.

Glossier Soothing Face Mist Review

It's no secret that I'm absolutely in love with Glossier's Milky Jelly Cleanser. Since that product worked so well for me, I decided to foray into more skincare items from them. Glossier recently had a promotion where you got their Soothing Face Mist at their Coconut Balm Dotcom for $5 with free shipping, so I decided the time was NOW... er, THEN! It's been many moons since I've had a facial spray in my daily routine.

Sephora and Ulta Birthday Gifts | a.k.a Happy Birthday to Me!

Sunday, August 14, 2016

Today is my birthday! If I was a normal person I would be enthused, but having a birthday in one of the hottest months of the year and also experiencing nearly 2 decades of my friends not being able to make it to my parties because everyone is out vacationing has put a bit of a sour spin on turning a year older for me. At least I have freebies from two of my favorite stores to console me being a year older and away from 99% of my friends and family.

Last Week in Review (August 7 - August 13)

In contrast to last last week, I actually got a lot done! Yaaaay! I feel really happy with my production rate last week and I'm aiming to keep it that way for the next year. Yep, today is my birthday. Another year older, another layer of age-related anxiety and regret... like being kicked out of the family health insurance plan in a few years. Can't we go back to when birthdays were fun and you got to invite all your friends over for cake and ice cream? I'm really not digging this whole "another nail in the coffin" birthday schtick that comes with adulthood. Anyways, I'm sure you're not here to hear me kvetch about how sad I am about being an old fart. On to the makeup!

Bdellium Tools "Pink Cadillac" Auto Lip Crayon Review + Swatch

Friday, August 12, 2016
Press Sample

Prior to getting this "Pink Cadillac" Auto Lip Crayon in my TMSLA Press Bag, I knew Bdellium Tools as a makeup brush company that my friend Mary form NeonChipmunk loves. I personally haven't had any experience with the brand before so I'm going into this a little blind. These Auto Lip Crayons seem to be their first foray into the makeup game, which isn't all that uncommon for brush companies.

PÜR Browder Perfecting Brow Powder Review + Swatch

Wednesday, August 10, 2016

My preferred go-to brow product is definitely a tinted brow gel, but I do love me a good powder for when I'm feeling a bit saucier. I tend to go the powder + angled brush route so this all-in-one PÜR Browder Perfecting Brow Powder left me scratching my head upon first look.

My Top 5 Favorite Lip Balms

I am a total slut for lip balm. I don it as part of my morning and evening skincare routine, I slather it on before I start putting on my face, I always have a tube of it on my desk, in my purse, and on my bedside table. I. Love. It. I've tried so many formulation and tubes over the years, but there are definitely five that stand out to me. The list below is ranked "love" to "must have".

Last Week in Review (July 31 - August 6)

Sunday, August 7, 2016
Oh boy. It's no secret that I'm a severely depressed individual, but the last two weeks have been really rough for me. I'm kinda angry at myself for shirking off because I know that making content brings me joy and it's a great way for me to be productive without feeling stressed out, but I just couldn't muster up the energy to do it, let alone prep for it. Unfortunately this Last Week in Review is going to be a little bit scant. I deeply regret not having a full week of content up, but I'm really proud of what I did manage to publish.

Skinfix Ultra Rich Hand Cream Review

I always have a tube of hand cream at my desk to slap on when I'm working. I can't stand the feeling of slightly dry skin, plus giving yourself a little 3 minute hand massage is a good way to take a small break and indulge in a little self care. The hand cream that has taken up residence at my work station as of late is the Skinfix Ultra Rich Hand Cream and oh boy is it super-charged with hydration power!

Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Review

There are just some things that when you find them you just know. Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser and I hit it off immediately and I've never fallen in love with a skincare product this quickly. I love it so much that I repurchased it even before my current bottle ran out. MJC is basically my Gwendoline Christe in Shining Armor and I never want to be without it again. Obviously, you can already tell how this review is gonna go.

Glossier Generation G Matte Lipstick "Crush" Review + Swatch

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

I reviewed the Generation G Matte Lipstick in "Cake" a few months back, and I gotta tell ya it doesn't do it for me as much as it originally did. Don't get me wrong, I still like it, but I want a little more punch when it comes to color during the summer months so here we are with "Crush"! If you're new to the Generation G Matte Lipsticks, they're basically a sheer, matte lip balm. It's unlike anything else I've ever tried, but it's just so, so easy to throw on and is one of my favorite "lazy girl" products.

Beauty Blender Micro Mini Review

Sorry about the mangled tube. My dachshund love crunchy plastic packaging

Me and Beauty Blender go waaay back! I've been using their original sponge off and on since 2012 and really, really like it. There have been a lot of new releases from the brand, some of which seem really gimmicky, but none of them caught my eye. Even these tiny little buggers didn't pique my interest and the only reason I have it is because it was in a past Beauty Con BFF Box. I prefer to do a lot of under eye work with a sponge so I thought I'd give these ones a go for that.

Last Week in Review (July 17 - July 23)

Sunday, July 24, 2016
Man oh MAN! It has been SCORCHING this weekend here in San Diego! I was supposed to do a large batch of filming and post writing, but my poor little laptop and I could not deal with the heat. Instead of actually using my brain to write what was supposed to be today's post, I've decided to just do a little week in review with all of my posts and videos if you happened to miss them!

Sephora Tarteist Tools 500 Point Perk Swatches

Friday, July 22, 2016

It's been a while since I've redeemed a 500 point perk. There have been some great ones in the past, but most of the ones I wanted had sold out before I got around to grabbing them. Mercifully, the makeup gods were smiling upon me the other day and I got the very last Tarteist Tools one. Squee!

Bésame "Chocolate Kiss" Review + Swatch

Little known fact about me; I'm a huge history nerd. Very well known fact about me; I am a huge makeup nerd. This brand, Bésame, perfectly marries the two with their historically accurate, yet safe to wear, cosmetics ranging from cake mascara to powders to fragrance, and to lipstick which is what I'm going to be reviewing for you today. I picked up the lipstick in "Chocolate Kiss", their 1970s shade, when I was at The Makeup Show LA. Let's take a closer look at this baby!

Milk Makeup Natural Deodorant Review

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

I've been wanting to try Milk Makeup products for ages. The minimalist designs, the cool-girl vibe, and eco-conscious products really caught my eye. Unfortunately, not a lot of Milk Makeup items are available in my area so I had to settle for trying out what I could find. Fortunately I've been on the hunt for an aluminum-free deodorant for a minute, so picking up the Milk Makeup Natural Deodorant wasn't a begrudging buy.

Glossier Flavored Balm Dot Com Rose Review + Swatch

I have a confession to make: I'm an 87 year old trapped in a 22 year old body. I enjoy collecting vintage tea cups, black licorice is one of my preferred sweets, and I love rose-scented products. I've been meaning to try out the very hyped Glossier Balm Dot Com, so i just had to spring for this rose one after it launched.

Lancôme Juicy Shaker in Walk the Lime Review + Swatch

Monday, July 4, 2016
Affiliate Links

Apart from the odd mascara or skincare sample, I've not been that exposed to Lancôme in my years as a makeup enthusiast. Maybe it's because my obsession began while I was younger and more likely to drift towards the trendier brands, or maybe the slightly higher price point put me off of it, but I've never purchased anything from them. However, these new Juicy Shakers did catch my attention partially because I haven't seen a bad word about them, but also because one of my makeup idols, Lisa Eldridge, is the creative director for the brand and has been promoting the heck out of these. Baa.

Lancôme Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover

Sunday, July 3, 2016
Affiliate Links

Eye makeup remover isn't something that I deem absolutely vital to my skincare routine. I rarely wear eyeliner and Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser normally has my back when it comes to fully removing everything in my eye area. In my pre-Milky Jelly Cleanser days I would use the Target brand knock off of the Neutrogena eye makeup remover, which was superior, so since I don't have a lot of experience with high end makeup removers I didn't really know what to expect going into this. Apparently this Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover is the most popular Lancôme product and is popular world wide, so it's gotta be good, right?

About Serums and My Personal Faves

Saturday, July 2, 2016
Affiliate Links, PR Samples

If you would have asked me 5 years ago what serums were I would have given you a blank stare. Back then I was young and didn't really know much about skin care beyond cleanser, moisturizer, exfoliator, and the occasional mask. Now that I'm approaching my mid-20's (scoff if you must, but it's mildly terrifying for me) I'm starting to take my skincare seriously since I'm beginning to see the beginning of some wrinkles forming and I am not having it. Serums actually play a pretty big part in my skincare routine, and while I'm still discovering what works for me and what doesn't, I've definitely got a few that I stand by. Before we get into my favorite serums, let's do a little skincare 101 and actually discuss what they are and what they do.

Hask Charcoal Purifying Line Review

After my minor hair fiasco with the L'Oreal Cleansing Balm, I was pretty hesitant to try a different hair line from my usual coveted Redken All Soft, especially after color correcting my awful orange grow out. The fact that this hair care line is a purifying one made me even more nervous. So did this budget friendly selection made the grade or end up in the bin?

Sephora Point Perks for June

Thursday, June 2, 2016
I haven't been this excited about point perks from Sephora for years. YEARS! I pretty much dropped everything and made an online order as soon as I got the email announcing what you can get this month. Check out the sweet items that you can nab with your hoarded points!

Summer Lip Care for Under $10

Ah, summer. That time of the year everyone looks forward to until you remember the scorching heat and bodily damage from all that blasted sunshine. There's a lot you should be doing for your body as the thermometer creeps higher and higher, like staying hydrated, wearing sunnies, and protecting yourself from the sun, but if there is one thing I can't live without during 3 months of hell on earth the warmer months it's lip care. There is nothing worse than being hot AND thirsty AND feeling like  your lips have turned into a landing strip for dessicants and hot sauce, which is why, dear readers, I wish to share some of my favorite lip products to keep your kissers plump, protected, and properly hydrated while you wait for fall. Oh, and they're pretty inexpensive.

April Ipsy Glam Bag Review + Video

Ok, so yes this is extraordinarily late, but in my defense I did receive my bag a few days into May. I decided that I wanted to kick things up a notch and do my boring monthly Glam Bag video in a totally different format because, frankly, I'm tired of doing them and having them be almost identical to every other small potatoes YouTuber out there. I'd really appreciate any and all feedback you have on the video/how I'm going to handle my ipsy subscription from now on! Without further ado, I present to you my April 2016 Glam Bag video and product review blog post!

L'Oreal EverCréme 6-in-1 Cleansing Balm Review

Wednesday, May 18, 2016
PR Samples, Afilliate Links

Cleansing conditioners and me have never really gotten along. I mean, I really like the IDEA of them since they theoretically can cut down your hair care routine down from several products to only one, but I have het to find one that works. RenPure did nothing for me, the Herbal Essence Cleansing Conditioner was basically just plain conditioner in a bottle, Wen worked for me initially but also ended up in the bin... and now this, which didn't break the cycle. Initially I was pretty excited to try it out because of all the fancy claims. This 6-in-1 product is supposed to cleanse, treat, soften, condition, detangle, and shine up your dry and damaged hair while still being a low-lather, non-stripping, and no build up cleanser without silicone, sulfates, or dyes for your mop... or so it claims.

essence Make Me Brow "Browny Brows" Review + Swatch

Tinted brow gels have been my go-to brow routine for a while now, so I've experienced a plethora from different brands. I can say with confidence that this is my favorite one from the drugstore. It hits the three categories that I look for in a brow gel product; it tints the hairs, it shapes the brow, and it fills in sparse spots as well.

Glossier "Cake" Generation G Matte Lipstick Review + Swatch + "Dupe"

I've been having a moment with Glossier. Why? Because Glossier is the quintessential cool-girl, minimalist skin care - and now makeup - brand, and even though I don't have the skin for it, subtle makeup has been my favorite look lately. This odd hybrid lipstick in a neutral hue is what I now gravitate towards on a daily basis for a no-muss, no-fuss lip product

My Beauty Lust List vol. 2

Ok, so my makeup-buying happy ass is on a no buy for a month or more, and I really mean it. Yes, MAC just announced that their eyeshadow pan refills are now only $6, and yes I REALLY want to get my hands on some more Jouer Cheek Tints that don't have shimmer in them, BUT I CANNOT DO THAT. My wallet is sad and starving, and I've got just enough cash to squeak by for the next month... maybe. I dun effed up.

That being said, I am still lusting after a LOT of stuff because hello... beauty blogger here! I recently did a "My Beauty Lust List", but now I need to make a second because look at all the pretty things!

Not that long ago I reviewed another lipstick from this line, Armageddon, and while I loved the formula, the shade didn't do it for me. Thankfully I picked up Lolita at The Makeup Show LA, which is definitely a "me" shade, so I can fully enjoy my favorite liquid lipstick.

Derma e Purifying 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask Review

Monday, April 11, 2016
Press Sample

As someone with combination/oily skin that is also very acne prone, I appreciate a good detoxifying/purifying mask. This Derma e Charcoal Mask is definitely a food detoxifying/purifying mask, and it comes in a sanitary squeeze tube, opposed to an icky pot that you have to dip into like a lot of other masks on the market. This product, along with the rest of the range is formulated without parabens, phthalates, sodium laurel sulfate, petrolatum, mineral oil, artificial colors, or GMOs. In addition to having awesome purifying ingredients like activated charcoal, and two oil absorbing clays (bentonite and kaolin if you were wondering), it also has exfoliating apricot seed grans that turns it into a scrub once you're ready to rinse.

I finally got my hands on this shade at The Makeup Show LA. It's been sold out since it launched, so managing to a) find it, and b) get it for only $11 was amazing. As a swatch, this product is what dreams are made of, but is it the same on the lips? Keep reading to find out.

Glossier "Black" Boy Brow Review

Friday, April 8, 2016
Affiliate link

I've been genetically blessed with fuller brows, so I have a pretty laid back brow routine that normally just includes using a tinted brow gel and the occasional powder when I'm feeling it. However, the main product I've been using for well over a year, Benefit Gimme Brow, isn't my everything. Yes, I love the small wand, the plumping fibers, and the relatively dry formula... but their darkest shade, "Medium/Deep", just makes my brows look ashy. Enter my new lord and brow savior, Glossier Boy Brow in "Black". This baby is difficult to get your hands on, let me tell ya. In the short time it's been out, it has achieved cult status and thusly has been sold out a LOT. I finally snagged one when the Phase 2 makeup sets launched along with their stretch concealer and a Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick.

Sephora Spring Sale Products Worth Buying

Just because I'm on a spending ban for the rest of the month doesn't mean I can't share the love! I decided to throw together a little list of some of the more pricey buys from Sephora that I think are worth it, but I normally can't repurchase because of the price - however the 10%-15% sale for Sephora customers makes the price tag a little more palatable! Before we get into the products, here are the coupon codes and dates of the sale for all three tiers of Sephora shoppers:

City Color Shimmer Shadow Review + Swatches

Press Sample

City Color is one of those brands that randomly shows up with the occasional product of two in an end display at my local Rite Aid, and prior to getting their Timeless Beauty Palette at Generation Beauty I never paid them much mind. After trying out a few things from their line, like these Shimmer Shadows, I'm kicking myself for not picking up some of their stuff sooner. These affordable singles are a-ma-zing.

NYX "Pink Lust" Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick Review + Swatch

Honestly, I don't get NYX. They're always coming out with new products, which I normally wouldn't mind, except they put out multiple products that are so similar to one another and it makes me hella confused. NYX started with liquid matte lip products years back with their Soft Matte Lip Creams, but new they have Lip Lingerie, Whipped Lip & Cheek Soufflé, and the Liquid Suede things. Is it really necessary to saturate your own line? Where does the madness end!?

Jouer Blushing Beauty Collection Review + Swatches + Tutorial

Wednesday, April 6, 2016
Affiliate Links

Yep, I totally buckled and bought something off my first Beauty Lust List. For those of you who don't know, I went to Gen Beauty LA and was exposed to a lot of brands I hadn't tried before. Jouer happened to be one of those brands and I've been a little obsessed ever since. This "Blushing Beauty" palette was the best way to get the most bang for my buck because you get a gloss, a bronzer, a setting powder, two eyeshadows, and two cream cheek products ann in one compact palette that can fit in your hand.

The palette is totally re-arrangeable by the way. If you don't like something, or want to go for a different look, you can easily swap something out. That is pretty freaking rad. The lego-like packaging makes most Jouer products capable of becoming part of a super customized palette. Oh, and all thee of the clamshell pods come with mirrors on the lid

Before we get into the rest of the review, I'd like to insert my recent video on YouTube that shows y'all how I use this palette to create a simple, every day makeup look. Check it out!

I'm doing a giveaway!

Kat Von D "Armageddon" Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Review + Swatch

Press SampleAffiliate Link

Prior to The Makeup Show LA I'd never had any Kat Von D items. I've heard good things about the line, especially the liquid lipsticks, but I just never really reached for anything in the line whilst at Sephora. La and behold, this product and a few others showed up in my press bag and now we're here. Luckily I took advantage of the 30% off pro discount while I was there and bought "Lolita" because that one is great and this one leaves a little something to be desired. I honestly probably would have written off the whole line based on my experience with "Armageddon", and I'm glad I didn't.

Kat Von D has super stylized packaging - it's very gothic meets tattoo culture meets pin-up, which is basically Kat herself described in three phrases. "Armageddon", a very bright, very cool (as in so blue toned that it almost pulls purple) carnation pink, is housed in a long, skinny, clear tube with black detailing and a black cap with silver roses.

PÜR Fully Charged Review | Mascara Monday

Monday, April 4, 2016

It's been a spell since my last Mascara Monday, yeah? This week's feature is from PÜR, and I'm kind of in love with their new Fully Charged Mascara!

Bear with me here... blog under construction

I needed an update to my blog, something a little more professional. Unfortunately I am not tech savvy when it comes to messing with templates and things were bound to go awry... as in I deleted ALL of my post views. Yep, I messed up and I am the dumb.

Anyway, things are gonna be a little messy here until I get everything hashed out. Thanks!

OFRA "Manhattan" Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick Review + Swatch

Sunday, April 3, 2016
Disclaimer: I don't know if winning this by taking an ipsyOS survey makes this a press sample, but I'm gonna mention it anyway just to be safe. All thoughts and opinions stated are my own.

Somebody call Satan because hell is about to freeze over. I may have found an OFRA product that I like. GASP! For those of you that don't know, I'm not a fan of OFRA. I think they overprice their products, have terrible packaging, and sub-par items. OFRA was the brand of cosmetics that came in my student kit when I was in school for esthetics, and everything from the crumbling liners to the less-than-idea foundation called "Ethnic 1" made me so grumpy when I had to work with it. However I do know when to admit that something is alright.

Recent Acquisitions TMSLA Edition!

Saturday, April 2, 2016

So yeah... I went a little nuts. Obviously there are too many products for me to do a proper Recent Acquisitions post like this or this, so I had to do a haul video. My "to review" system (i.e. a series of Sephora bags if we're being honest) are overflowing right now.

My Experience at TMSLA + Floor Walkthrough

Oh my god... where do I even begin. The Makeup Show LA was the best experience of 2016 for me so far. I got to hang out with and meet new blogger buddied, learned a million new things, met one of my makeup artist favorites, and got in some pretty hefty shopping. This is definitely an event that you shouldn't miss!

TMSLA Keynote Recap: Living in Color - Kat Von D - Hosted by James Vincent

Friday, April 1, 2016

I actually sat in on this keynote out of necessity since I had already made my rounds through the floor, my feet were tired, and I was getting cranky during my wait for the last keynote of the day, which was Union Strong: Women in Television and Film. I'm actually glad I decided to go to this one because I learned way more about Vat Von D and her products than I did before... which was approximately zero things.

Spring 2016 Reduced Runway: Candy Apple Lips on a Budget

Because I like to keep things real with y'all, I did receive the Essence lipstick as a PR sample. I'm not being paid to feature it, I just genuinely like it. Onward!

NGL, it's felt like spring in San Diego ever since it started cooling down for fall. Either way, spring is here and so are the new trends for the season! One of the major trends on the runway for this season was a bright red lip and I kinda love it. Instead of keeping things soft and pastel, a lot of runway shows killed it with a bright, happy, bold red pout. I've selected three affordable shades for this trend, two are a little more comfortable for people not super confident about rockin' a red lip or for my more low key peeps, and one unapologetic vivid hue.
