Product Review: BA Star Glue Liquid Base (press sample)

Saturday, September 21, 2013
I received this product from BA Star via Brand Backer a while ago to review. This product also came with a glitter, but I've decided to review each product separately. To read my Silver Holo Glitter review, please click HERE.

I kept putting it off and putting it off and putting it off because I had a gut feeling that I wouldn't be impressed. Well, lo and behold: I wasn't impressed. But before we get into the whys and why nots of this product, let's take a look at the packaging and go over some general information.

Here is what the website has to say about this:

  • Use under eye shadows and glitter
  • Apply with self contained dabber
  • Clear plastic container & applicator
  • Sweat resistant
  • Net weight 1.5 fl oz
Yeah... not a ton of claims made about this (in fact, the only one that they DO make is a complete and utter fail) and the bulk of the info is packaging and uses.

Now on to the packaging:

It's really nothing all that special. Clear tube (product makes it appear white), silver cap and lettering, etc. It's sturdy, but it doesn't scream high quality.

The back has the product information, instructions, and ingredients on it. As you can see, there is no friendly little bunny logo on here so this product is most likely not cruelty-free. One thing that kind of confuses me is that the packaging says that this product is the Body Shimmer Base, which doesn't exist on the website, but is what I assume to be the Glue Glitter Base OR the Glue Liquid Base. This whatever-the-heck-this-thing-is has some serious continuity issues.

The applicator is just a plain ol' doe foot. Nothing fancy here! However I'm not a huge fan of the whole doe foot thing when it comes to primers since it just transfers facial or eyelid oils back into the product, which can break it down over time.

Now let's move on to the performance of this product compared to other similar products. Now, I say similar because I don't have any glitter bases, but I'm going to compare it to Urban Decay Primer Potion and the Wet n Wild For My Primas primer.

The primer itself is white (as shown by the clear packaging) but it sheers out to clear and dries to a semi-tacky and satin-y finish.

Here it is underneath the BA Star Holo Silver Glitter, which came along with it:

So here are the things that I'd like to note: BA Star is better at maintaining a shiny-er more glittery finish when it comes to the sparkles, but the glitter concentration is not nearly as high as the other two. I primarily accredit this to the fact that the BA Star product dries down more than the other two and doesn't have as much of a tacky or somewhat sticky feel either. The sparseness of the glitter due to this base can be cheated if you use a silver eyeshadow or cream shadow underneath. BUT (and this is a big but), you may want to take a look at this before deciding anything:

Uhhh... where did it go? This was just after a somewhat firm swipe under running tap water. For being a "sweat proof" formula, this holds up against water as well as a single ply tissue does.

I also tested it out against bare skin and the other two primers with a regular eyeshadow (Urban Decay Buck if you're wondering) to see if there would be any different results:

Long answer short: Nope! It did not perform any better. I do have a burning question of my own though: How does a product end up performing WORSE than bare skin when it comes to color saturation and being water proof!? Seriously... how...

Needless to say, this product is a total bust.
