Do you ever have a product that you thought was going to be horrible upon first impression, but ended up being pretty great once you gave it a chance? This Kevyn Aucoin Flesh Tone Lip Pencil is definitely one of those products.
This guy is actually my very first Kevyn Aucoin product, despite the fact that I've poured over 'Making Faces' for years. Since Kevyn Aucoin products are up there in price, I'm also in no state to indulge in the line, but luckily this "Hyacinth" Flesh Tone Lip Pencil showed up in my The Makeup Show LA press bag. This pencil is a traditional wood pencil whose design fades from deep, luminous plum to black with satin pale gold print. The lid is black and there is a color-coded dip on the end. It's actually quite the stubby little pencil, but the cap gives it the illusion of being longer. The shade "Hyacinth" is a rose plum shade.
Upon first swatch I was really worried at how hard and dry feeling this pencil was, which made me hesitant to try it since I'm used to the softer, dimethicone-y lip pencils like the ColourPop ones. Luckily I go t over it and took the plunge. Since the formula is hard, the pigmentation varies depending on how much pressure is used when applying, which is really handy if you're trying to cheat and overline your lips in a way that looks normal. Despite being drier and harder than what I'm accustomed to, it's not patchy, it doesn't crumble, and it doesn't drag like I was expecting. It's also super light on the lips and I'd probably forget that it was even on if it wasn't slightly drying. Obviously this thing is going to mover around if you eat something oily and it isn't kiss proof, but it's long wearing when undisturbed.

Final thoughts: This formula is amazing for cheating a fuller looking pout without looking unnatural. As someone with thin lips, this is my best friend. This is the first hard lip pencil that I've used that doesn't crumble, so if you're a dry lip pencil fan, you may want to check these out!
