Lancôme Bi-Facil Double-Action Eye Makeup Remover

Eye makeup remover isn't something that I deem absolutely vital to my skincare routine. I rarely wear eyeliner and Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser normally has my back when it comes to fully removing everything in my eye area. In my pre-Milky Jelly Cleanser days I would use the Target brand knock off of the Neutrogena eye makeup remover, which was superior, so since I don't have a lot of experience with high end makeup removers I didn't really know what to expect going into this. Apparently this Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover is the most popular Lancôme product and is popular world wide, so it's gotta be good, right?
Thankfully this comes in a variety of sizes and prices. The one I happen to have is the 1.7 oz one that retails for $15. The standard size is $30, and that's roughly four times the price of your standard drugstore eye makeup remover, and a bit pricey for me considering that it's a unitasker. The first thing I noticed that set this apart from the cheaper ones I'm used to is how quickly the two phases of the product mixed. It took a couple of very gentle shakes to fully blend them and create a milky fluid. Upon first pour, I was a bit worried about how oily it felt - it's an incredibly light formula, but it still had a distinctive oily slip to it, plus it tends to get everywhere. This product also has a very light rosewater scent to it, which normally I like, but having scented products go near my eyeball is something that I don't exactly relish.

To test this out, I did some VERY unflattering double black eyeliner since I've noticed that my lower lash line tends to be the most difficult place to remove makeup. I soaked the cotton round with the product, held it over my closed eye for several seconds, and started wiping away. I did manage to remove nearly everything with just that one cotton round, but it did take a while to grab everything off of my lower lash line. Surprisingly this didn't leave my skin feeling oily, nor did it sting my eyes or leave a temporarily blinding oil film on them. Overall I would say that this was a very positive experience and I'm disappointed that I hadn't tried this out sooner! I'm not really one to use eye makeup remover, but if I ever need a new bottle I'm going to replace my old Target favorite with this one, but in the smallest size.

TL;DR section

Price: $15-$39

Size: 1.7 oz, 4.2 oz, 6.7 oz

Pros:
  • Super effective
  • Doesn't leave skin feeling oily
  • Does not irritate eyes

Cons:
  • Price is a tad high
  • Pretty messy

Cruelty free: Nope

Final thoughts: I was honestly surprised by how much I liked this, mess aside. I'm naturally suspicious of makeup companies that foray into skincare, especially Lancôme because I haven't liked any of their heavily-scented and over priced products, but this sucker proved me wrong. I think it's definitely worth looking at if you have sensitive eyes or tend to wear a lot of long-wear eye makeup. Yeah, $30 is more than I've ever spent on a makeup remover, but luckily they have smaller and less expensive sizes that are easier to justify the price on.

  1. I am not a fan of makeup removers (I use baby oil - boo) but this made me rethink my routine :) I might run out to buy a similar product.
