Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water Review

Micellar waters are definitely trending in skincare and this Garnier one is the latest to hit the drugstore. I'm gonna be honest with you guys, prior to trying this one, I'd only ever used two others - the one from Simple, and a long discontinued and highly fragranced YSL micellar water. Even with my limited exposure, I can still say that I feel a bit "eh" about this one. It falls right in the middle of the two, meaning I don't love it, but I don't think it's horrible.

I do rather like the packaging! It's fairly simple and fresh looking. The pop top is easy to open, but the cap itself needs to be unwiggled back into place after opening it. There is a second micellar water in this line that is formulated for waterproof cosmetics and has that oil-on-water look, but it didn't pique my interest.

The first thing I noticed about this is that it suds up quite a bit for something touted as a water. It also feels a bit funky on the skin as it evaporates... kind of a light popping sensation, and then a film, which I'd attribute to the glycerin content of this dude. It's supposed to be a no-rinse formula, but I find myself having to splash it off with some water. That being said, it still does it's job as a gentle cleansing micellar water. It removes makeup to an extent - mascara and eyeliner still need a remover, but I've found that to be a pretty common theme with the micellar waters I've tried.

TL;DR

Price: $8.99

Size: 13.5 fl. oz/400 mL

Availability: Ulta, Target, drugstores

Pros:
  • Quick and easy face makeup remover/cleanser
Cons:
  • Leaves a film on the face
Cruelty free: Nope

Final thoughts: I mean, it does it's job, but I prefer the Simple micellar water over it because that one doesn't leave a film.

  2. I've been eyeing this as well! Honestly I'm not sure what "micellar" even is (I'll have to Google...) but I'm not a fan of anything that leaves a film :P I'll probably pass on this then, haha!

    1. It's a very light film, thb, but I'm an oversensitive snob so most people probably wouldn't notice, haha. The Simple one is better in my opinion. Micellar water is basically water with these magical charged particles that attract dirt, debris, and pollutants and carry them off the skin.
