NUDESTIX Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in "Belle" Review and Swatches

Wednesday, March 2, 2016
NUDESTIX was kind enough to include this product in the Gen Beauty cocktail swag bag, ergo it's a press sample. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

NUDESTIX has been one of those brands that I knew existed, but didn't hear much about. After meeting the creators, Ally and Taylor Frankel, at Gen Beauty LA, researching the brand a little, and trying out their newest lip creation, I'm a little shocked as to why it's not buzzed about as much as it deserves. I don't want to get too far into the brand and what it stands for in fear of sounding repetitive in an upcoming brand review, but the basic rubdown is that these products are supposed to enhance your natural beauty and give you a nude, fresh, and put together look, which is what I'm finding I'm all about in 2016.

The idea behind these new Matte Lip + Cheek Pencils are that they're a "soft, non-drying matte lipstick, lip liner, and cheek blush all in one pencil", so basically you're getting a tin, a sharpener, and a 3-in-1 product. This pencil is also supposed to be ultra long wearing as well as waterproof, smudge-proof, soft, and non-feathering for up to six hours.

Personally I find that this wears just fine on it's own, but it can feel a little thick so I like to apply a thin layer of lip balm about 5 minutes before slapping this on, and that gives it a more pillow-y effect. This method also prevents the super dried matte look (but not feel) that this lip pencil takes on a few hours into wear when used alone. Even with the underlying moisturizing product, it pretty much meets it's claims. I wore it to a wedding and reception and only had to fully reapply after a particularly aggressive stint at the taco bar. (Note to self: have taco bar at own wedding). On a less taco intensive day, I do notice that the wear is shown most from the center of the lips, but a quick touch up with no removal fixes that right up.

One thing that I adore about this product is that it comes in a very eco-responsible tin that can house basically a full face worth of NUDESTIX, has a full length mirror, and also has a perfectly sized pencil sharpener. That last bit really gets me though because you never realize how dang important a chubby pencil sharpener is until you don't have one on hand, or worse, at all.

Back to the actual lip product... Belle is described as a "pretty perfect plum nude". Looking at it, I can see a whisper of plum, but I mostly see a nice pink nude that would be a bangin' MLBB shade for folks with less pigmented lips than I have. The shade looks pretty great on me and I'm assuming it will look just as nice on a wide variety of skin tones. Personally, I like the shade "Purity" better as a MLBB for me since it's a touch darker and almost perfectly matches the more pigmented outer lines of my lips. I've got a review coming up on that one too, but just a small spoiler: it's my new fave MLBB.

As for a cheek color, it does work well as a very natural no-shimmer cream blush, which is my jam because I have some mad texture issues courtesy of adult acne and a matte cream product is the best for not drawing attention to that. Plus, there's just something so effortlessly chic about cohesive lip and cheek colors when going for a you, but enhanced look.
